Krwawy świt, mroczny dzień… Problemy Rzeczypospolitej początku XVII wieku w świetle literatury okolicznościowej (Jacek Wójcicki)
The volume is constituted, almost in its entirety, by materials from the Sandomierz conference under the evocative title of Bloody Dawn, Dark Day… The Problems of Rzeczpospolita of the Early Seventeenth Century in Occasional Literature. The conference became an opportunity to trace the history of that tumultuous period. It also became an attempt to identify the causes and effects of those bloody events and to present the literary commentaries devoted to the political and social issues of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, embroiled in military conflicts. The involvement of the Commonwealth in its neighbours’ affairs, its difficult internal politics and war struggles – these are only some of the issues discussed by the authors. Among the interdisciplinary texts assembled in the present edition, and previously presented during discussions (between 11 and 13 October 2006 in Sandomierz) in several thematic blocs, the volume presents analyses and interpretations of different genres of Polish texts of the Commonwealth time (journalistic prose, epic and song poetry – including new finds from Swedish archives). Materials included in the tome are complemented by articles from the ‘Varia’ category, as well as reviews of recently published books.
