Słowa ponad granicami. Literackie świadectwa kontaktów kulturowych (Jacek Wójcicki)
The edition includes materials from a Cieszyn conference devoted to the issues of reality and conventionality of borders in literature and culture. The meeting, under the title of Words beyond borders. Literary testimonies of cultural contacts, became an opportunity to trace the history of divisions and the attempts at communicating in order to preserve continuity of tradition. Mutual permeating of cultures, evidence of friendships and antipathies in neighbourly relations, judgements on Polishness by foreigners across the ages, categories of otherness and familiarity, the borderlands of literature and culture – these are only a few of the issues explored by authors of the articles in the present volume. The articles were previously presented during the discussions (between 12 and 14 October 2005 in Cieszyn), in six thematic blocs: I Between Silesia and Courland, II Views from Beyond the Antemurale, III Polish-French Borderlands, IV Europe of Slavs – Without Borders?, V ‘Kresy’ [Eastern Borderlands] – Familiar and Exotic, VI From Above the Books. a supplement to the edition is composed of articles in the ‘Varia’ category (edition of two eighteenth-century documents with commentary, a discussion on the spoken form of a romantic letter, through a selected example), as well as reviews of recently published books.
