Wstęp (Jacek Wójcicki)
A ‘royal’ volume, containing articles on the issues of monarchic rule as discussed by Polish authors from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. It explores, among other things: the rhymed guide to legendary Roman kings, the political poetry of the interregnum period of 1763-1764, electoral poems for Stanisław August Poniatowski and the Latin-language poem for Napoleon’s son. Prose is represented in the volume through the discussion of eighteenth-century journalistic texts on the issues of Polish politics. Essays in this edition have been illustrated by examples of occasional literature, on the basis of unique old prints and manuscripts, published for the first time and with the use of modern editorial methods. Authorship has been ascribed to several anonymous texts.
